Case Study: Oakdale Baseball & Softball Association

OBSA is a youth sports organization in California that organizes teams, events and provides memorable experiences for the players.

Challenge

Their main pain points came from their existing sites that were provided by their sports management systems. At this point they had tried several different sports systems and were still not happy with the website, among other things with these systems. On top of that, their new season was just around the corner so the website had to be completed within 2 weeks.

Solution

To meet OBSA’s needs, we opted for a website that we designed in-browser (no formal design processes or mockups), allowing us to create a website that met their needs within the deadline.

Design Process

OBSA did not have much branding to work with, just a few variations of the logo in small raster image files. We dove into the development and first built a design system with classes that can be reused throughout the website. A little work that saves much time later. This design was basically freehand, and was continually refined as we went. All said and done the site took about 50 hours. This is not much better in terms of sheer hours than if we had done the normal processes, but, without the back and forth in the traditional processes (which is often the biggest delay), we were still able to complete it within their timeline and budget.

Key Features

The resulting website features a clean and modern design, with a focus on showcasing OBSA’s important information for coaches and players. Key features include:

  • A responsive design that adapts to various devices and screen sizes
  • A special registration menu to direct people to the right forms
  • A calendar which ingests the calendar feeds from their sports management system
  • A blog for important updates

Results

The new OBSA website has exceeded expectations. They also came on as Site Care clients and we continue to serve them each month. Below is one of the email responses from their executive staff:
