Site Care FAQs
Isn’t this just hosting? I thought hosting was cheap?
While it’s true that hosting can be found for dirt cheap these days, that is what is known as commodity hosting. It is basically just a company that buys servers and says OK, you can rent part of it for X amount. They cannot care about the health of each individual website, and can even be hostile to that request because real support is not priced into their plans. Commodity hosting is a volume business. It shows with their hard to get a hold of, and outsourced, or automated, customer support chats. They only are able to care that the server is functioning (not difficult), and the website then is your responsibility (the difficult part).
Hosting is part of what Site Care offers, but it’s not everything. Site Care is a holistic health service for your website that includes hosting. It is everything you need for your website.
Is this only for WordPress websites?
Yes, Site Care is highly tailored for WordPress websites and is not available for other types of websites.
Why should I get Site Care?
Site Care is like having a technical friend that loves helping your business out without needing to be asked. It is hard to touch on all the areas that Site Care does for you in one paragraph but to sum it up: you’re going to have a website that works amazingly well, and you aren’t going to have to worry about that area of your business anymore. It is also worth mentioning that because Site Care includes preventative maintenance, it is designed to save you money on costly repair bills and emergency fixes.
What is a Maintenance Report?
This is a comprehensive list of the technical details of the maintenance, updates, content changes, speed test results, and more. It is delivered in a PDF file to you each month.
What is a Maintenance Summary?
This is a concise, plain-english summary made by the developer that worked on your website. It includes only what is worth knowing so that you don’t have to pour over the detailed Maintenance Report to get the gist of what was done. These are sent in an email to you with the Report PDF attached.
I have someone that can do updates for us. Do I still need Site Care?
Site Care is a holistic service that covers many areas and ensures a fast, smooth running website at all times. While maintenance and updates are one part of that, it’s not everything in Site Care. It’s possible, and welcome to have a technical contact on your team to interact with the site. However, the maintenance service we provide has value in its reliability, thoroughness, and in the expert experience of the developers that are working on your website.
While it’s easy to view maintenance as a checkbox, the truth is that a fresh set of eyes is always beneficial. With Site Care, we’re not just a maintenance provider – we’re a trusted partner that can serve as your website’s safety net. We will gladly work with your team and the site will be better for it. By having us on your team, you can rest assured that your website is being monitored and updated regularly, reducing the risk of errors, security breaches, and downtime. Think of us as your insurance policy for your online presence, providing peace of mind and protection against the unexpected.
When security vulnerabilities arise, we proactively apply patches to every website under our care. Similarly, we’re always on the lookout for compliance changes, minor errors, and thoughtful fixes that can make a big difference in a website’s performance. Whereas websites under the sole care of the companies that own them, often have these details go unaddressed. Instead, we prioritize them as part of our daily routine, ensuring that our clients’ websites run smoothly and efficiently. It’s this level of attention to detail and commitment to staying up-to-date that sets us apart and makes us the go-to choice for businesses that want to trust their website maintenance to the experts.
What is Requests Credit?
Think of time credit like a prepaid phone card. You can use a certain amount of time for various tasks and requests, ensuring that your needs are met promptly and efficiently.
Why is Requests Credit good to have?
Time credit ensures that you have a dedicated amount of time allocated for your requests, so that your needs are met promptly and efficiently. This means that you can avoid surprise requests that tend to have slower turnaround times.
What kind of work is covered by Requests Credit?
Time credit can cover tasks such as content, design or functionality changes to the website, and onsite SEO. This is not just limited to typical “maintenance and troubleshooting” – this is a holistic service that’s concerned with your whole site health.
What is not time tracked?
Services covered under Site Care, such as maintenance and updates, testing, responding to monitor alerts, backups, and communications, are not tracked.
In the case where a replacement solution needs to be found or general troubleshooting is needed to fix issues, that’s covered as part of your ongoing warranty. The ongoing warranty is only possible within a Site Care plan because your site is being well taken care of and new plugins are being tested first on a staging site.
In short, the time credit is only for the time spent specifically doing your extra requests for changes on the website.
Examples of Requests that use credit
- If you need to update your website’s content, you can use your time credit to request our team to make the changes.
- If you need to change your website’s logo and color scheme, you can use your time credit to request our team to make the changes.
- If you need to add a section on the home page, you can use your time credit to request our team to make the changes.
Does Requests Credit rollover to the next month?
No, Requests Credit does not rollover. It’s allotted at the beginning of each month.
What happens when I go over my Requests Credit amount?
We’ll first tell you that it’s approaching and ask for your confirmation before proceeding. When possible, we’ll also provide an estimate for those cases. You’ll never get a bill that you weren’t given notice about beforehand. For tasks that reach the limit, if it’s close, we’ll typically just finish it for you. If it’s much over the limit, we’ll ask that you defer it to the next month if you can wait, so that you’re not billed.
What is Email Deliverability?
Email Deliverability in this context is the reliability of emails that are generated by your website to reach their destination. This has nothing to do with traditional email accounts, it is a totally separate thing and is concerned only with transactional emails that are sent by the website.
Why do I need it?
WordPress by default, uses a method of sending emails that has very low Email Deliverability. In fact, some email providers (yahoo) automatically block emails that are sent this way. This is why it is so common to not get your WordPress password reset emails, and why customers sometimes don’t get their receipt emails.
So, a solution is needed. We circumvent the default method of sending email and instead use a Deliverability service to send your website’s emails. This service also actively helps keep your domain off of email blacklists.
What is a Strategic Rework?
Because businesses sometimes need to reassess and change their online presence, we offer a strategic rework on Total Site and Total Shop, available once every 24 months. This is similar to a redesign project, we’ll use data from the existing site to inform our decisions of what to change and make your website work better for you. If you also need to redesign, this is a good time to do that as well.
We offer this so that you can stay with us as customers if you were wanting to change the website.
If you have only the Site Care plan, you would need to book a Website Project in order to do a redesign.
